FABRICATION SUPERVISOR - TAMESIDE (PFSTTP)
We are looking for a driven, hands-on Pipework Fabrication Supervisor to join a busy and growing pipework fabrication business. This is a fast-paced, demanding environment where organisation, urgency and attention to detail are essential.
Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, you will take responsibility for coordinating the daily flow of work through the fabrication operation, ensuring materials and jobs move efficiently from goods-in, through the cut and screw process, and on to goods-out.
The successful candidate will be an experienced supervisor who knows how to get the best out of a team, maintain high standards and keep production moving to tight deadlines. This is a hands-on role, and you must be willing to operate machinery and support the shop floor when required to keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Coordination: Organise and oversee the flow of materials and jobs from goods-in, through the cutting and threading processes, to final preparation and goods-out.
- Team Supervision: Lead, motivate and drive the shop floor team to achieve daily production targets and meet demanding timescales.
- Deadline Management: Ensure jobs are prioritised correctly and completed on time, addressing bottlenecks and delays before they affect deliveries.
- Hands-on Support: Be prepared to operate fabrication machinery and assist with production when required.
- Quality Control: Maintain a keen eye for detail, ensuring fabricated pipework is produced accurately and meets the required quality standards.
- Goods-In and Goods-Out: Ensure incoming materials are handled efficiently, work is processed in the correct sequence, and completed orders are prepared and dispatched on schedule.
- Workflow and Organisation: Keep the workshop organised, productive and running efficiently, making the best use of available staff, machinery and materials.
- Performance Management: Set clear expectations, monitor staff performance and challenge poor productivity or standards where necessary.
- Problem Solving: React quickly to changing priorities, unexpected issues and urgent customer requirements.
- Health and Safety: Ensure safe working practices are followed throughout the workshop and that staff maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Communication: Work closely with the Branch Manager and relevant office personnel to provide updates on production progress, potential delays and operational issues.
About You
We are looking for someone who can take control of a busy shop floor and make things happen. The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a manufacturing, fabrication, engineering or similar production environment.
- Experience working in a high-pressure, fast-paced operation where priorities can change throughout the day.
- A proven ability to drive productivity, motivate staff and ensure tight deadlines are achieved.
- A hands-on approach, with the confidence and willingness to jump onto machinery when the operation requires additional support.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- A strong eye for quality, accuracy and attention to detail.
- The confidence to challenge underperformance and hold team members accountable for their responsibilities.
- The ability to identify problems quickly and make practical decisions to keep production moving.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with management and colleagues across the business.
- A proactive, resilient attitude with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
Experience in pipework fabrication, pipe cutting and threading would be a distinct advantage, although experience in a comparable fast-paced manufacturing environment will also be considered.
What We Are Looking For
This role will suit someone who thrives on a busy shop floor, enjoys being actively involved in operations and takes pride in getting the best out of people.
You will need to be comfortable managing competing priorities, pushing for results and maintaining standards when the pressure is on. We need a supervisor who leads from the front, sets the pace for the team and understands that production targets, quality and delivery commitments all matter.
This is not a role for someone who wants to stand back and simply oversee operations. We need a practical, energetic and organised individual who is prepared to get involved and lead by example.
