POWDER COAT SECTION LEADER - Tameside (PCTLCM)
We are working with a well-established client based in Tameside, to recruit a Powder Coat Section Leader to start ASAP on a temporary to permanent basis.
Job Summary
The Section Leader is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the powder coating spray line while leading a team of 3–4 production staff. The role ensures production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards. The Section Leader coordinates workflow, monitors equipment performance, enforces safety procedures, and promotes continuous improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of 3–4 production staff.
- Assign work based on production schedules and employee capabilities.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, and adherence to company policies.
- Ensure proper shift handovers and effective communication between teams.
Production Operations
- Monitor and oversee the daily operation of the powder coating spray line.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Verify correct powder application, curing temperatures, and coating thickness.
- Minimize downtime by responding promptly to production issues.
- Ensure products are processed according to customer specifications and work instructions.
Quality Control
- Conduct routine inspections of coated products for appearance, adhesion, coverage, and finish quality.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
- Identify defects and implement corrective actions to reduce rework and scrap.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Perform routine checks on spray guns, powder feed systems, conveyors, ovens, and curing equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly to the Maintenance Department.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained according to preventive maintenance schedules.
- Support troubleshooting activities to minimize production interruptions.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Enforce all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles.
- Identify and report workplace hazards and participate in safety improvement initiatives.
Inventory & Materials
- Monitor powder coating material usage and minimize waste.
- Ensure sufficient production materials are available for scheduled work.
- Assist with inventory control of powders, hooks, masking materials, and consumables.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements to increase productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Participate in lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement projects.
- Support implementation of standard operating procedures and best practices.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in powder coating or industrial painting operations.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is an advantage.
- Valid Counterbalance License (RTITB, NPORS or ISHTAR accreditation)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Good understanding of powder coating processes and quality requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues.
- Knowledge of workplace safety standards and quality systems.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills for production reporting.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.

- Production output achieved versus target.
- First-pass quality rate.
- Rework and scrap reduction.
- Equipment uptime.
- Safety compliance and incident rate.
- Team attendance and productivity.
- On-time completion of production schedules.
Hours & Pay Rate:
- 6.00am to 2.00pm – Monday to Friday.
- Total hours = 37.5hrs per week.
- £15.00 per hour.
